A Touch of Jupi| 橘皮装点

An Imagined Blend

This is a recipe shared to us by our incense teacher and renowned Chinese incense scholar, teacher Qiao. The sandalwood and aloeswood base is accented by the jupi (also known as chenpi in Chinese), aged tangerine peel.

Jupi is commonly found in Asian households, and is used for everything from stews to teas to traditional Chinese Medicine. As it ages, the crisp, acidic flavor of the tangerine peel matures into a warm citrus scent, refreshing yet rich at the same time.

This first batch consists only of backflow incense cones, each hand made by teacher Qiao, who generously agreed to make some of his very limited incense available to us. I had visited his studio while he was making these to refine our incense making processes, and was struck by how wonderful his dough smelt as he was kneading it.

Please note that these incense cones are somewhat differently shaped and larger than others in our collection for this reason.

A Touch of Jupi is part of the Kin Premium Incense Collection, a collection of incense exclusively hand-made in small scale studios including our own. All incense in the Premium incense collection are enclosed in Wutong wood boxes painted with traditional Chinese red ink.

4.0 (H) x 1.4 (at base) cm | 1.6 (H) x 0.6 (at base) inches (35-40min burn time)

Ingredients: Sandalwood, Aloeswood, Aged Tangerine Peel, Benzoin, Camphor, Nanmu

Each backflow incense package includes 12 cones encased in a Wutong box

Wutong is a type of wood popular for storing incense in East Asia due to its superior anti-mold and anti-moisture properties.

Please note that as every piece is handmade, the size, shape and color will have irregularities depending on the batch. These are a part of the handmade process and not considered defects.

Over time, we may continue to tweak the blend as we are continually searching for better ingredients, and improvements to our processes.
