Karst Terrarium Backflow Incense Burner

Karst | 群山

This collection of modern incense burners (or incense holders) is inspired by the terrarium. A glass cylinder encloses each piece, allowing the backflow incense plume to descend onto the concrete formation beneath, uninterrupted by air.

Inspired by the unique clusters of cone-like hills found in Guilin and Zhangjiajie, Karst is a geometric abstraction that conveys the other worldly feel of these landscapes. The incense burner’s plumes dive and billow around the cluster of cones in varying heights, finally gathering at the foot of the mountain to completely obscure it. Then only the peaks remain and the seemingly unfathomable depth of fog that surrounds it.

Material: concrete, borosilicate glass, aluminum

As our concrete products are individually hand-made, each one will be different. Characteristics such as air bubbles, slight unevenness, minor scratches or bumps were all incurred in the production process and are unavoidable due to the nature of concrete. These are not considered defects unless they affect the functioning of the product.

We recommend gently wiping with a damp cloth shortly after use. Do not rinse directly under water. Metal parts will be very hot during and immediately after burning, care should be taken to avoid injury.

Avoid contact with oily or colored substances as these will stain the concrete.

Place this product on silicone mat while burning to avoid smoke damaging standing surface.

Inspired by the richness of traditional Chinese culture

Kin draws its inspirations from thousands of years of Chinese history.

Fragrances, or incense, known as 香 (xiang) in Chinese, was treasured in ancient China and first used in the royal palace. The first Chinesebook of fragrances was written as far back as the 5th century.

Re-interpreted with a unique, modern aesthetic

Kin objects showcase minimal designs with clean lines.

Bill Yen, the award-winning architect and designer behind Kin, brings over 15 years of experience. Kin objects are developed from scratch in our Shanghai studio, and are painstakingly designed, re-designed, prototyped and re-prototyped .

A beautiful balance:
Acceptance, Calmness
and Belonging

The result are objects that capture the balance of traditional Chinese culture with a modern lifestyle in its most beautiful form.

Kin creates objects for our homes that embrace seemingly contradictory influences in our lives; objects that ground us, accept us, bring us a sense of calm, and give us a sense of belonging.

Great Birthday Gift!

I got this for a co-worker. He loved it! He said that just watching the smoke plumes fall down and coil and slither along the landscape relaxes him. Very happy with purchase.

Beautiful Reverse Incense system

A well built and designed reverse incense set. The set came sooner than expected and the packaging was superbly done as to not have any items break in transit. The cone pulled the smoke down within 30 seconds of lighting and the mountain’s position was centred perfectly for an equal distribution of smoke. We will be back to purchase more incense cones. Looks and smells amazing! Much better quality than other sites for comparable products. Completely happy with our purchase.
